Situation 03 · GenAI and structure
Software takes over tasks. The structural question gets handed to IT.
No one disputes that this changes roles. What that means for the structure is rarely worked through in the numbers.
Someone has to settle what software takes over in-house, and what that does to the work. In the mandate this is called automation or substitution potential.
The problem underneath is that tasks do not disappear evenly. A role loses forty percent of its work and stays in place — hollow, but filled. The structure notices nothing at first — then everything at once.
Task analysis is the right place to start. It becomes a decision only when it carries through to the roles that remain afterwards, and to the skills that are then missing.
Not whether, but which positions in which order — and what happens when the order is wrong.
The use of technology and the organizational structure have to fit together. An AI target state with no structure under it is not a target state.
